Report on Durga Sapthasathi Homam at Thiruvallur, Chennai on Askhaya Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya is one of the 3 most auspicious days as per the Hindu calendar. The Sun and the Moon are in an exalted position on that day. Any puja, sacrifice or dana (gifting) done on that day is believed to fetch manifold results. What else can be more satisfying than a Maha Chandi Yagna to please the divine mother on such a holy day?

Ambaal herself says in the Chandi Path

Yatraithat patyathe samyang nithyamayathane mama,
Sadaa na thadvimokshyami sannidhyam thathra me sthitham.

I will never leave any place where this (the glory of Chandi) is read according to prescribed method and my presence would always be there. ( Durga Saptashati Mantra  Chapter 12 -8)

The Yagna started with the regular rituals of Punyahavachanam and Ganesh Puja. Maha Sankalpam was done for the welfare of all devotees and for the early completion of the Rajagopuram of Sri Viswaroopa Panchamukha Hanuman temple.

The sacred Agni was obtained in a few minutes, which signified the abundant blessings of the Goddess Chandika Parameswari. The main homam was performed with the chanting of the Durga saptashati Maha Mantra by vaidik priests and Sri Lakshmi Ji gave the oblations into the sacred Agni.

The Homam was well attended by devotees from Thiruvallur and Chennai. Ambaal again choose to convey her grace, couple of days after the homam, through the copious rains in Thiruvallur District.
